His parents gave him the name Jesus. But the prophets, the shepherds, the wise men, and angels addressed him by other names. They called him Lord, Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, Light of the World, and Word Made Flesh. In Incarnation, best-selling author Adam Hamilton explores the meaning of these titles and what they tell us about the child whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Join Rev. Alyssa in exploring claims about Jesus’ identity and reflecting upon the significance of the Christ-child for our lives and world today.

December 8: Blue Christmas Service, 6:30 pm

People have undergone unprecedented loss this year. Family and friends have succumbed to death in the pandemic, millions of people have lost jobs and economic security, and some individuals have closed businesses they built over a lifetime. Most of us have lost many of the beloved rhythms of life that felt familiar and offered us the richness of gatherings and adventure. All in all, 2020 has contained far too much interpersonal distance ... and far too many losses related to hatred and violence.

Throughout Advent we will proclaim hope, love, joy, and peace in the midst of difficulty. But it also is important to acknowledge that sometimes hope, love, joy, and peace are distant feelings in the face of so much hardship. Plus, for many people who have suffered loss, the anticipation of renewed grief as Christmas Eve approaches can be difficult to bear. On December 8 at 6:30 pm, we will gather via Zoom to share solidarity, comfort, and fellowship during this season of hope as well as grief.

7:15 pm: Zoom Gathering with Bells and Candles

We originally hoped to gather on Christmas Eve in person on Woodfords’ front lawn for luminarias, bells, and candlelight. Due to a weather forecast filled with rain and heavy winds, we have decided to move the gathering online. Join us for some bell music and bring a candle, if possible.
