Shared Ministry Discussions

The process for learning about SHARED MINISTRY will start on September 3rd, and will continue for the next few weeks. Gatherings have been scheduled for the first three Wednesdays of this month. Before committee members gather for their meetings, they are asked to first attend a SHARED MINISTRY discussion with Carolyn and Joan. These discussions will begin at 6:15pm and last for 45 minutes. (Chairs, please adjust your meeting times accordingly.) All members of the congregation are also invited to attend these educational meetings. We look forward to seeing you.

There are further plans in the works to extend these conversations, especially in the time surrounding the Sunday when Marcia Barnes Bailey will be with us. The author of the book Choosing Partnership, Sharing Ministry, Marcia will grace the Woodfords pulpit on October 5th. Watch for further information in the weekly all-church email and in the Sunday Announcements.

There’s Always Room for Ice Cream

There will be ice cream for all on Sunday, September 14th! Join us on the front lawn after the 10:30am worship service. What a great way to bring our summer worship services to a close and look ahead to autumn and the beginning of Church School!

So join us for worship on September 14th- and bring your appetites.

Inquirers' Luncheon on Sept. 21

Are you new to Woodfords and looking for more information on the church and your opportunities to get involved? Have you been attending Woodfords for a while now and feel you are ready to talk about becoming a member? Were you a member in the past and would like to become active again?

Whatever your current status at Woodfords, the Membership Committee would like to invite you to a luncheon following the 10:30 service on Sept. 21st. Over a meal of soup, bread and dessert, you'll receive information on Woodfords and the membership process. In addition to the Membership Committee representatives, we'll have folks from various groups on hand to answer your questions about the different service and fellowship opportunities at Woodfords.

We look forward to seeing you on the 21st! If you're planning to attend, please contact the church office at 774-8283 or email Joanne Friedrick at jofried@maine.rr.com.

Woodfords’ Knitters Click Into Action

If you’ve given your knitting needles a rest over the summer, it’s time to get them out again and join the Woodfords Knitters. We’ll be working on projects for the Downeast Fair. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month in the Reading Room at 6:30pm. All knitters of all abilities are welcome to join us!

11th Annual Autumn Equinox Celebration

Saturday, September 20th at 7:30am
Maine Audubon, Gilsland Farm, Route 1, Falmouth

Join us at the Audubon as we celebrate the return of autumn. The gift to worship outside is a wonderful blessing. Our service will include prayer, song, readings, and a walking meditation. Afterwards we'll have coffee, fruit and baked goods. We'll be across from the pond, near the rock. Symbols of autumn and breakfast treats are welcome.

Fox Class First Fall Meeting

The first meeting of our fall season will begin on Wednesday, September 10, 10:30am in Seely Hall. Millie Brown, our new President, will preside. Wilma Kinney will be in charge of devotions. After a brown bag lunch, Dick Miller will present a musical program. All the women in the church are invited to attend.

Vespers:

Using the Psalms, music, and prayer, we will take time out of the busyness of our day to contemplate our personal relationship with God. You are very welcome to vespers at Woodfords Church, UCC on Wednesday, September 17, at 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary Chancel. From this Wednesday on Vespers will continue weekly throughout the year.

Bubbles in the Garden

Don’t forget: the basket of bubbles in the cloister is for all the “young at heart” to use after worship in Memorial Garden!!

Blessing of the Water

Please remember to take an empty bottle (or use one of your own) to bring back water from your travels this summer. It’s a great way to keep us all connected even when we’re apart for rest and renewal. We’ll have everyone bring the water in on Recovenanting Sunday (September 14) – we’ll bless it (and all of you!!) and then sterilize it to use as our baptismal water.

Recycling for the Nora Project

Thank you for donating over $180 in bottles! Please keep them coming through mid-September. FMI or for big-load pick-up, please call Joan Dinsmore, at 774-9186.
