Preparation begins at 4:00 p.m., and servers need to be at the soup kitchen at 5:30 p.m.

The Soup Kitchen is housed at the Community Resource Center.«

Wayside Soup Kitchen was founded in 1986.  The first meal was served on April 14, 1986 from Immanuel Baptist Church.  In November 1993, Wayside Soup Kitchen moved to the Community Resource Center (CRC), on the corner of Preble and Oxford Streets in Portland.

Wayside Soup Kitchen serves a soup and sandwich buffet at lunch time during the week (Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.).  The evening meal is served from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every night of the year.

Woodfords Congregational Church joins over 45 churches, synagogues, and other civic and community groups in a ministry to the homeless and working poor who are served at Wayside.  Woodfords is commmitted to preparing and serving the evening meal on the third Sunday of each month. 

Preparation for the evening meal begins at 4:00 p.m.  No prior kitchen experience is necessary -- just the willingness to help!  At 5:30 p.m. another group of volunteers arrives to familarize themselves with the evening routine and serve the meal beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Clean-up begins at 7:00 p.m.
